You Stood with Me!
Raising your voice can be terrifying, especially as a student. When I first started campaigning to get free bus passes to school, I had no idea how I was going to change the minds of so many powerful adults.
That’s why it meant so much to know that there were people like you standing with me.
And you didn’t just stand with me. You walked with me! Back in 2015, we marched in Providence City Hall to demand the bus passes we were promised. So many adult allies like you came and marched with PSU, or promoted our cause on social media. You helped us make a point about how students like me shouldn’t have to navigate dangerous highways and bad weather just to get an education.
By raising our voices together we won our campaign, and now, high school students living more than 2 miles from school get a free bus pass. Student voices and adult support made it possible for 1800 more students every year to have a way to make it to school safely and on time.
I know there’s still so much to do. But thanks to the community of amazing people like you, I’m not as scared to do it anymore.
