Style Guide

PSU wants to create a powerful, unified image. This is achieved using colors, fonts, and iconography to create an image consistent with the values of PSU.

THE LOGO

Logograph
The logograph is primarily devised of the acronym for Providence Student Union, PSU, formed in the shape of a megaphone. This megaphone symbolizes student voice, leadership, and activism, three hallmarks of PSU.

Logotype
For banners and alternate logos displaying the full name of Providence Student Union, Eras Bold ITC is used. The font is bold and all capitalized, displaying the strength and unity that PSU values.

Best Practices

  • The logo should be confined to a combination of some of the standard PSU colors: orange, white, or black. Exceptions are for special circumstances, eg the PSU logo over a rainbow background for Pride.

  • The megaphone should be tilted upwards at approximately a 40 degree angle to communicate optimism and raising one's voice.

  • The logo should be kept to scale and not stretched or squashed.

  • For banners, the font should be kept the same color as the logograph to keep a unified design.

  • The logo should have good contrast with the background to ensure maximum impact and accessibility. For example, grayscale publications should use the logo with a black background as opposed to simply making the standard logo black and white, since the orange would become a shade of gray and have minimal contrast.

  • The edges of the square logo can be rounded for use as icons.
